Sunday River kicks off The Main Event Snowboard
Series
Wednesday, November 30, 2005

NEWRY, Maine (Nov. 30, 2005) – Snowboarders hoping to
secure a spot in this winter’s Burton US Open will be
heading to Sunday River for the kick off of The Main
Event Series, which will award two US Open slopestyle
entries to the Series winners. The four part series gets
underway on Dec. 11 at Sunday River’s Rocking Chair
terrain park.
“The event format is very rider friendly,” said Brad
Githens, Sunday River events and competitions
coordinator. “It’s a mini-slopestyle with two features
being sessioned in a jam format. After everyone gets
their runs, it’s time for the finals. That’s The Main
Event.”
The four part series awards cash and prizes at each stop
while amassing points towards an overall winner. The
overall winners in the men’s and women’s categories will
be offered a wild-card entry into the Burton US Open of
Snowboarding. Setting the Sunday River event apart is
that the Sunday River winners are automatically entered
in the Honda Sessions happening in Colorado on Jan. 14,
2006.
Competitor registration occurs on the day of the event
from before first chair until 9:30 a.m. when competitor
practice begins. At stake is entry into major
snowboarding competitions nationwide, cash and prizes
including The Main Event Series Title Belt.
Sunday River offers four terrain parks in-season and is
committed to quality early season terrain features. The
resort features two pipes, one of which Zaugg-cut
Superpipe. Sunday River offers terrain parks that
progress in size and scale allowing guests who are new
to terrain park style and etiquette to gain skill and
confidence in a comfortable environment.
More information regarding Sunday River’s terrain parks
and pipes is available on the resort’s terrain park
dedicated section of their website www.sundayriver.com/terrainparks.
