OUR FAVORITE RIDES
Maine promises spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife viewing in winter.
Sled ME resorts offer
guided tours for the vacationer including sled rental and lunch on the trail.
All trails are maintained regularly with state-of-the-art grooming equipment.
From Northern Outdoors
in The Forks it is a 50
mile ride to Greenville
via ITS 87. The trail winds through the forests and finally reaches its highest
point on the flanks of
Squaw Mountain with a spectacular view of Moosehead Lake.
Deer and moose are
abundant and share use of this trail with snowmobilers.
From The Marshall Inn,
Three Rivers Snow and New
England Outdoor Center in
West Forks, a 44 mile round trip excursion follows the Dead River to Grand
Falls. If these falls aren't spectacular enough, riders can make a loop through
Enchanted Township with its beautiful forests, ponds and bogs. This trail climbs
over 1000 feet to reach the base of an abandoned ski area. On a clear day riders
can see down the Kennebec River Valley to the capital in
Augusta.
Riders get their kicks on Route 66, a local club trail about 30 miles long that
runs from
Unicorn Expeditions on Parlin Pond to
The Birches Resort in
Rockwood. The trail travels over heights of land with wide open vistas.
Depending on your departure point, lunch is available at either resort in dining
rooms warmed by fieldstone fireplaces.
This season The Birches
offers a three night excursion. The first day's ride around Moosehead Lake ends
at the entrance to
Baxter State
Park. Lodging is at
Twin Pine Camps.
The next day's trip winds up at the old
Pittston Farm Lumber Camp for a hearty meal and overnight. The final day's
travels follow the Moosehead Lake trail back to the Birches.
