COASTAL N.H. SMELT FISHING TO BE FEATURED ON THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL

CONCORD, N.H. -- A story about New Hampshire's enduring tradition of
coastal smelt fishing will be featured on The Outdoor Channel's national
broadcast of "Fish & Wildlife Journal" at 7:30 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday,
January 17.

Smelt fishing on New Hampshire's Great Bay and adjoining tidal rivers
has a rich and colorful history. With rising and falling ice, whiteouts
and sub-freezing temperatures, non-anglers often wonder what makes it
so enticing. No need to wonder any longer. The anglers featured here are
passionately devoted to their sport. Year after year, they head for
frozen waters like the Squamscott River in Exeter, where they set up
colorful ice shanties in anticipation of the annual migration of the smelt.

The story was produced by Jason Philippy and Jon Charpentier of the New
Hampshire Fish and Game Department, in partnership with New Hampshire
Public Television. This episode of "Fish & Wildlife Journal" will repeat
on The Outdoor Channel on January 19 at 7:30 a.m. (EST) and January 21
at 3:00 a.m. (EST). More stories on fishing and hunting in New
Hampshire are planned for future episodes.

The Outdoor Channel is a national television network devoted primarily
to traditional outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, shooting
sports, rodeo, motor sports, gold prospecting and related lifestyle
programming. The programs are designed to appeal to "traditional sportsmen"
of all ages, with a focus on activities that the entire family can
enjoy in the great outdoors.

As of November 2005, The Outdoor Channel had approximately 25.7 million
cable and DBS subscribers, as estimated by Nielsen Media Research, and
was available to approximately 74.7 million households.
