MASSACHUSETTS TEEN CARRIED OUT OF WHITE MOUNTAINS FOLLOWING INJURY

CONCORD, N.H. -- A Massachusetts teenager was carried out of her
group's camping site off the Zealand Trail in New Hampshire's White Mountains
early this morning, July 27, after accidentally spilling boiling water
on her feet last night. The girl, 16-year-old Katelyn Ryan of Medfield,
Massachusetts, was taken to Littleton Hospital and treated for
second-degree burns. Her group of 3 counselors and 8 campers was on an
overnight camping trip.

A call for help came in to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department
at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26. Fish and Game
Conservation Officers, along with Appalachian Mountain Club staff and the
counselors from the camping group, assisted with the carryout, which concluded
at about 1:00 a.m. this morning.
