FREE TALK ON ENDANGERED KARNER BLUE BUTTERFLY AND CONCORD PINE BARRENS
GET INVOLVED AS A VOLUNTEER!

CONCORD, N.H. -- Come learn about the state-endangered Karner blue
butterfly and rare pine barrens habitat (one of the few of its kind in the
world) that exists in Concord near the municipal airport. The public is
invited to attend a free talk exploring the Concord Pine Barrens -- and
opportunities to volunteer in the restoration of the Karner blue
butterfly -- on April 19 from 7:00 - 8:30pm at New Hampshire Fish and Game
headquarters on Hazen Drive in Concord. For more information call Marilyn
Wyzga at (603) 271-3211.

Wildlife educators and Nongame and Endangered Wildlife biologists from
Fish and Game will present a slide show and talk about why the Concord
Pine Barrens are such unique habitat, how the community is working
together to restore the pine barrens and why saving the Karner blue
butterfly -- New Hampshire's official State butterfly -- is so important.
Refreshments will be served.

"Last year was an exciting season for the Karner blues in New
Hampshire, with biologists finding the butterflies in the wild in all their life
stages, a good sign that the population is beginning to reproduce in
their natural habitat," said Marilyn Wyzga, a Wildlife Educator with N.H.
Fish and Game. "We'll talk about the outlook for Karners this year and
how things are going in our efforts to restore the Concord pine
barrens, as well as letting people know how they can get involved in this
important conservation project."

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is the guardian of the
state's fish, wildlife and marine resources and their habitats. Find out
