MIDDLETON'S JONES POND WILL NOT BE STOCKED IN 2005

CONCORD, N.H. -- Jones Pond, in Middleton, located within the Jones
Brook Wildlife Management Area, will not be stocked with trout during the
2005 season because of serious structural integrity issues with the
pond's earthen outlet dam, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department
reported today.

Jones Pond is a fly-fishing-only water that has been managed to provide
a quality trout fishery, and therefore is a popular fishing destination
for a segment of New Hampshire's anglers.

Recent heavy rains and snowmelt apparently contributed to significant
damage to a portion of the Jones Pond dam. As a result, the water level
in the pond has dropped 6.5 feet, a substantial change, since the
maximum depth in the pond is just 11 feet.

Around the state, fishing opens in fly-fishing-only ponds managed for
trout on April 23, 2005; the season extends through October 15. For a
list of waters around New Hampshire managed as quality trout fisheries,
visit http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/trout_quality.htm.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is the guardian of the
state's fish, wildlife and marine resources and their habitats. For online
license sales and fish stocking updates, visit
