MISSING MASSACHUSETTS HIKER RESCUED IN WHITE MOUNTAINS

CONCORD, N.H. -- Tired and cold, but unharmed, 32-year-old missing
hiker John Jackson, of Carlisle, Mass., was found on the Dry River Trail in
the Crawford Notch area of New Hampshire's White Mountains by a team of
New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers on Tuesday
morning, April 12.

Fish and Game officers had searched through the night and into the
morning hours, with today's search hampered by late-season snow squalls
sweeping through the area. Jackson had been missing since Monday night,
when he failed to return as expected from a two-day hike he began on
Sunday, April 10. He had spoken with his brother by cell phone on Sunday
evening, reporting all was well, but then did not arrive back in
Massachusetts Monday night as planned. He was reported missing on Monday night,
and N.H. Fish and Game officers immediately began their search,
assisted by a N.H. State Police helicopter.

"We're thankful that we succeeded in finding him," said Capt. Martin
Garabedian of Fish and Game. "It's not advisable to hike alone, but
Jackson was smart to let someone know when and where he was planning to hike
and when he was expected home. Weather and trail conditions this time
of year in the White Mountains are unpredictable - you have to be
prepared for just about anything."
